Abstract

Caffeine is a stimulant substance widely consumed by the public to enhance alertness and activity levels. However, caffeine consumption has the potential to affect sleep quality, especially when consumed excessively. This study aims to analyze the effect of sugar-free caffeine consumption on sleep quality and daily activity levels.

The research method employed a quantitative approach by collecting data through the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaire to measure sleep quality and the Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) to measure levels of sleepiness or activity alertness. The research subjects consumed sugar-free caffeinated beverages, including coffee, tea, and matcha, with a consumption time limit until 3:00 PM for 15 days.

The results showed that coffee consumption tends to provide a stronger stimulatory effect, potentially affecting sleep quality compared to tea and matcha. Meanwhile, tea and matcha consumption demonstrated a more stable effect on sleep quality and daily activities. Limiting caffeine consumption until 3:00 PM can help minimize sleep disturbances, although individual responses may vary.
